Ideas From ForwardCon2010

For the past few days I've had the amazing opportunity to attend Forward Conference 2010. This was my third year going, and I still look in awe at the work that God is doing through Free Chapel, and the souls that are being touched as a result of this conference.

By now you all know me.

I'm big on not only the spiritual side of worship, but also the production thereof. So below I've gathered my top 10 "points of interest" from the technical side of worship this weekend:

• Outline squares with tape on a black table to hold and label the mics and wireless packs.

• Tons of movement on stage! There was lots of smiles, jumping, and hand raising.

• Everyone in the band wore dark colors. Nothing bright, flashy, or loud.

• Hand signals to tell musicians hold out a loud ending. (I.e. loud cymbals, constant guitar strumming)

• Have a vocalist sing a song in the set, but make it their own. (adding vocal trills, or alternate melodies)

• Only the person leading the song should give vocal cues, or exhortations. If they can't give an exortation, they shouldn't be leading the song.

• The soundboard is on the left side of the stagealong with the power amps to the mains and subs. Thus making it easy to communicate from the stage to the soundman or vice versa.

• At the closing of the sermon, the keyboard player came up and played softly, followed by the rest of the band a little later.

• The speaker always had a different mic than the lead singer.

• Pull back mic stands, and music stands when the speaker goes up to speak.
